CONFERENCE
Thanks for coming to Fredericton!
This year’s APLA Conference was, we feel, an overall success. It was our great pleasure to organize this event and we thank all who visited Fredericton and took part in the Conference. We counted 217 delegates, 62 generous sponsors, 50 speakers in 38 sessions, 44 exhibitors, and a volunteer staff of 49 sturdy souls.
The Conference theme, "Make a Difference! Grow a Library" "Ayez un Impact! Développez votre bibliothèque" provided a theoretical framework for the sessions held, but was also the basis for the very practical "Adopt a Library" fundraiser for the Sebeta Reading Room in Ethiopia. Our keynote address by Stephen Lewis was an inspiring reminder of the need to consider literacy and the right to information in a global context as well as a local one. We are pleased to report that APLA has almost reached its goal of raising $2,500.00 for CODE "Adopt a Library" project.
Once again, thanks for taking part in APLA 2006. Your participation made the Conference a delight to host.
John Teskey, Conference Coordinator, APLA 2006
