Pre-Conference Workshop - Success With Assessment
Sunday, June 8th, 9 am – 1 pm, Milham Room, Harriet Irving Library, UNB
This half-day workshop will review practical approaches to assessment that can be applied successfully in different library settings and organizational structures. Examples will be drawn from different types of libraries and show how libraries can effectively demonstrate and document the value they add to their communities.
Topics covered
- Introduction to assessment, performance quality and outcome measures in a learning commons context.
- Asking the right questions, prioritizing assessment needs, choosing appropriate methods
- Review of assessment methods (including LibQUAL+™)
- User needs assessment
- Facilities evaluation and assessment (including learning/knowledge/research commons)
- Working with data
- Developing performance and outcome measures; the Balanced Scorecard
- Understanding and presenting assessment information
- Using assessment information to make libraries better
- Building practical and sustainable assessment
Workshop outcomes
- Understand the value of assessment and measurement for libraries and their customers
- Know the range of options and methods available for assessment
- Develop practical approaches to assessment and an assessment plan linked to the local environment
- Understand how to use assessment data (even if you are numerically challenged!)
- Understand how to present assessment results effectively to different audiences
