Image Metadata Scheme
Archives of Ontario Online Exhibitions This online exhibit contains some of the holdings of the Archives of Ontario, with the focus being upon Ontario's involvement in human rights. Featuring a blend of text and document thumbnails, this site also contains links to other exhibits of the Archives of Ontario. Bibliotheque National du Quebec This site maintained by the Bibliotheque National du Quebec features various image galleries with a combined total of over 400,000 images online. Included are picture galleries featuring maps, stamps, postcards, and photographs. The British Columbia Archives Online Visual Records This site contains approximately 110,000 images consisting primarily of photographs depicting the history of British Columbia, with an emphasis on records created by government ministries. Furthermore, there are several unique collections featuring the work of prominent British Columbian photographers, as well as a 10,000 item online art collection which includes some paintings by Emily Carr. Canadian Museum of Civilization Collections Storage A joint venture of the Canadian Musuem of Civilization and Kodak Canada, this image gallery now contains over 70,000 images and will continue to grow until the majority of the museum's 1 million artifacts are imaged. Industrial Architecture of Montreal The Industrial Architecture of Montreal site is an ongoing project of McGill University's Blackader-Lauterman Library of Architecture and Art. Its aim is to collect, organize, and preserve textual and visual information on approximately 130 buildings in the industrial districts of Montreal that are scheduled for remodelling. In doing so, this site promotes the industrial architectural heritage of Montreal. This site contains over 24,000 images drawn from the McCord Museum's collection of over 950,000 objects. These online images are designed to reflect the social history and material culture of Montreal, Quebec, and Canada. National Archives of Canada Photography and Documentary Art Collections The National Archives site features catalogue descriptions of over 40,000 artifacts, but only about 100 of these are currently online. The National Archives is committed to digitization, however, and pledges that this number will gradually increase as they continue to image the over 22 million photographs that are currently held in their collections. Nova Scotia Museum Mi'kmaq Portraits Old Montreal This site contains a picture gallery of approximately 150 images integrated into text detailing the history and attractions of old Montreal. It also contains a Flash virtual tour, featuring many of the images from the picture gallery. Prince Edward Island Department of Education The Prince Edward Island Department of Education, in conjunction with the PEI Public Archives and Records Office, prepares 3 or 4 online exhibits per year dealing with a specific subject or event in the Island's history. Online images have been taken from photographs, maps, and drawings. This online virtual museum is a division of the Canadian Museum of Civilization. Containing 1000s of images, this site includes image galleries featuring the Group of Seven, Emily Carr, Inuit Sculpture, Transportation and Industry, and History and Society, among others.
National Aeronautics and Space Administration, NASA Image Exchange (NIX) Containing over one million images, NASA's site has image galleries dealing with manned and robotic exploration of space, as well as the aeronautical experiments that preceeded the space race. New York Public Library, Digital Library Collection The New York Public Library maintains this database, which contains over 500,000 images. Most of the images are of New York City. United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Photo Archives This site features images collected from repositories across the world. The images deal with anti-Jewish activities, primarily from Europe during the Hitler years. University of California at Riverside, California Museum of Photography This site documents the history of photography from a Californian perspective. Included is the work of noted photographer Ansel Adams as well as hand-coloured photographs of 19th century Japan. International Museum of Photography and Film, George Eastman House, Photography Collections Online This site contains some of the vast photograph collections of George Eastman, inventor of the Kodak camera. National Library of Australia, PictureAustralia This is a gateway site to online image collections in Australia, covering all aspects of Australiana. You can search a wide range of Australian image collections, regardless of where they are located. Heritage Image Partnership (U.K.) Similar to the ImagesCanada and PictureAustralia gateways, this site features historical photographs from institutions such as the British Library, the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television, the Royal Photographic Society, the National Motor Museum, and the Museum of London. National Library of New Zealand, Alexander Turnbull Library, Timeframes This New Zealand site includes over 20,000 images pertaining to New Zealand, the South Pacific basin, and the British colonial settlers' roots. Nagasaki University Library, Japanese Old Photographs in Bakumatsu-Meiji Period This site features photographs taken in Japan between 1860-1899, or from the end of the Edo period to the beginning of the Meiji era. Many of the photographs are hand-colored. This is one of the largest image repositories in Japan. |
