1. Did the Summer Institute with David Seaman live up to your expectations?
-- Exceeded them.
-- Yes - I would like a follow up.
-- That and more
-- More than met my expectations - very thorough & comprehensive as well as detailed for application quickly at our institution.
-- Yes
-- It was an excellent course.
-- Absolutely
-- Yes, it's a lot of information in one week.
-- Yes. Thought the progression (day-by-day) was just right for most of us who could not jump directly into XML coding and for providing the framework for much broader issues.
-- Yes
-- Yes! It helped me to "get over the hump" of the initial learning curve.
-- Yes
-- Yes
-- Yes - I knew the topic didn't quite fit my needs, but I was pleased to find that even the "irrelevant" stuff was interesting.
2. What did you like best about the Institute?
-- The instructor
-- Large Coverage
-- David's enthusiasm, and the fact that he could translate his expertise so we all could follow him.
-- The mix of lecture and hands-on
-- Excellent, clear explanations of complex concepts
-- Meeting other people who do the same kind of work & hearing about Mr. Seaman's experiences.
-- Focus on practical issues.
-- Hands-on with a real project-created file.
-- Hands-on practice combined with the conceptual overview.
-- The hands-on experience.
-- David is an excellent instructor, knowledgeable and approachable.
3. How could the course have been improved?
-- Maybe slightly more material on imaging could have been provided.
-- Handouts.
-- Make sure everyone had acces to a full-size computer; had a hard time working with the notebook.
-- I could have used a little time to "catch up" here and there - not a real problem, however.
-- I understand that it is difficult to meet the needs of such a variety of students, but the class was a little slow & didn't cover as much as I had hoped. Maybe there could be an advanced class in the future?
-- More time for practical application.
-- It would need to be longer!
-- Air-conditioning :^)
-- More hands-on at the beginning of the week.
-- Having more time & support for the hands-on activities - rushed at the end; one or two "monitors" in the room to help?
4. Were the social events worthwhile? Enjoyable?
-- Yes, very enjoyable.
-- Kings Landing lovely. Thank you! (As a vegetarian, I hope you don't mind my missing the BBQ)
-- Wonderful, not too structured, but enough.
-- Certainly - King's Landing trip was an excellent ice breaker & valuable learning experience. Dinner at Alan's was exceptionally welcoming and delicious.
-- Yes. Yes.
-- Yes! The barbeque was amazing.
-- Only went to lunches/bbq -- but worthwhile and enjoyable.
-- Yes + yes!
-- Yes, particularly the King's Landing trip
-- Yes. A good chance to break the ice, follow up on class info.
-- Yes - low key but giving some sense of community.
-- It is very well organized, and really enjoyable.
5. Any other comments you would like to add?
-- Lunches became boring -- more buffest or "build-your-own"
-- Wonder if the course could travel?
-- I want to send all my librarians & archivists to this course, even the ones who don't work on digitization projects, just so they would understand what we're trying to do & why it's important.
-- Truly excellent! Thank you so much.
-- There was a bit of dichotomy in the class between those with a technological, and a little library background, and those of a library and little technological background. Not bad, it worked well, but if you're ever redesigining the course you may wish to focus it.
