Canadian Theatre History - Bibliographies
The foundation of a Canadian Drama bibliography can be found in one volume published by ECW Press in 1993:
Bibliography of Theatre History in Canada: The Beginnings Through 1984 (Bibliographie D'Histoire de Théâtre au Canada: des Débuts -- fin 1984)
This volume, with its 10,807 entries, was published under the General Editorship of John Ball and Richard Plant. Associate Editors were Patrick B. O'Neill (Halifax), Jean-Cléo Godin (Montreal), Anton Wagner (Toronto), David Gardner (Toronto), Leonard E. Doucette (Toronto) and Malcolm Page (Vancouver).
Since 1993, John Ball and Richard Plant have added annual updates to their original work. These updates have been included in the newsletter of the Association for Canadian Theatre Research.
The search engine on this site contains the (roughly) 16,000 entries of both the original Ball and Plant bibliography, and the subsequent annual updates. Permission to make data from the original publication available was kindly granted by the publisher, ECW Press. Of necessity, this search engine follows the electronic structure behind that original volume, which means it has proved impossible to separate elements of the individual dates sufficiently to allow a precisely chronological search engine printout. Each entry from the original bibliography is cited with the reference number assigned to it in that volume.
