Series No. 1

Academic writings. -- 196[?]-95. -- 1.6 m of textual records

Scope and content: This series documents Ferrari's academic activities as author of upwards of 35 published articles and books, several unpublished manuscripts, and a concordance in two volumes -- Concordantia in libros XIII confessionum S. Aurelii Augustini, the latter published jointly with Rodney H. Cooper, Peter M. Ruddock, and J. Robert Smith in 1991. In particular, it highlights his research interest in St. Augustine of Hippo (354-430), bishop and doctor of the church. This series also contains several booklets on the subject of racial discrimination which Ferrari prepared for the New Brunswick Human Rights Commission.

It includes correspondence, research notes, background material, and newspaper clippings as well as drafts and published copies of articles, booklets, and major works.

This series consists of 3 subseries: 1) research and correspondence, 2) manuscripts, and 3) published articles and booklets.

Subseries 1, research and correspondence includes correspondence, primarily between Ferrari and journal editors, with respect to the publication of articles and books. Letters with friends, faculty, and university administrators discuss research problems, invitations to lecture, and university matters. This subseries also includes a few draft articles, receipts, reports, research notes, and related research materials. File 9 contains a single review of Ferrari's book The Confessions of St. Augustine.

Subseries 2, manuscripts contains drafts of books and articles as well as a published copy of the Concordantia (1991) to the Skutella text. It also includes Parts I to V of Ferrari's The Story of Western Philosophy From the Ancient Greeks to the Atom Bomb, which the author used in class.

Subseries 3, published articles and booklets contains off-prints and published copies of scholarly articles which appeared in such journals as Augustinian Studies, Augustiniana, Revue Des Études Augustiniennes, Laval Théologique et Philosophique, and Queens Quarterly. It also includes published copies of five works dealing with human rights issues and a 1958 article concerned with higher education in Halifax, N.S. The archivist has indicated if files contain off-prints, published copies, or both.

File arrangement of subseries 1 is random; file arrangement of subseries 2 is alphabetical by title; file arrangement of subseries 3 is chronological by date of publication.

Title based on contents of series.

Copies of Ferrari's unpublished manuscript The Earth is Flat! An Exposé on The Globularist Hoax, of his published article "Feminism and Education in a Flat Earth Perspective" which appeared in McGill Journal of Education, and of his writings about The Flat Earth Society's aims and views are located in series 2, The Flat Earth Society.

A number of letters are in French or German.
