Series 5: Czechoslovakia: Collected Articles and Other Material. -- 1977-1995; predominant 1983-1991 -- 30 cm. of textual material.

Scope and Content: This series contains material pertaining to John Haseks association throughout his life with his native Czechoslovakia.  Hasek retained an avid interest in his homeland, and was an active member of a Canadian Czechoslovak Association, as well as visiting Czechoslovakia regularly, and starting Education for Democracy, which would later become the John Hasek Society.

Included in this series is  information on prominent Czechoslovakian figures, writings, correspondence, material from Canadian Czechoslovak associations, and items potentially related to the John Hasek Society.

Notes:

Title: Title is based on the contents of the series.

Language: As there are items in both Czech and English, the language(s) of the material contained within each file is indicated in bold after the title of the file.

Related Material: There is a fonds entitled John Hasek Society (MG H 183), which contains documentation from Education for Democracy, as well as from the John Hasek Society. The John Hasek Society fonds may correspond with file 8 of this series.

Included in this file are newsletters, correspondence, expense information, and a banquet ticket. For a period of time, John Hasek acted as Secretary-General for the Czechoslovak Association of Canada.

10. Rally for a Democratic Czechoslovakia -- 1989 -- Czech and English
This file contains a binder that appears to have been created for the purpose of documenting a civic forum/rally which took place on November 26, 1989, in Toronto, in support of political reforms in Czechoslovakia..  Included is correspondence, advertisements, and articles of constitution of the Civic Forum Fund Group.  Much of the correspondence involves the Czechoslovak National Association of Canada.
