HISTORICAL CENSUS OF POPULATIONThe earliest census available as a public use microdata file is drawn from the 1901 census returns. The Canadian Century Research Instrastructure is a project underway that is attempting to capturing a public use microdata file for the years between 1901 and the first census in electronic file, 1971, but the work on that project is not yet complete. What is available, through the DLI and its partnership with the CCRI are the following files: Note that aggregate returns for all census years are available on the third floor of the Harriet Irving Libary in the Government Documents, Data and Maps Department of the UNB Libraries in print format. Users may also find historical statistics on E-STAT useful.
STEPS TO OBTAIN DATA FILES:Links to electronic versions of documentation and SPSS or SAS command files are provided where they exist. 1. Click on the file you require to download the datafile to your hard drive. This will take you to the Statistics Canada DLI license under which the files are provided to UNB Libraries. After entering your email account, an authorization screen will appear. 2. You must enter your PIN number and your email address to obtain the file. Only authorized users may download files from this site.
