The
Canadian Tobacco Use Monitoring Survey (CTUMS) is conducted for Health
Canada to provide data on tobacco use and related issues. The primary
objective of the survey is to track changes in smoking status, especially
for population most at risk, such as the 15-24 years olds. The survey is
intended to allow Health Canada to estimate smoking prevalence for age
groups 15-24 and 25+ by province and by gender on a semi-annual basis.
There are three components of the CTUMS survey. For each reference period,
there are two files: a household file and a person file.
- Annual: The annual component is a combined file of responses received
in cycle 1 and cycle 2. There are two files generated from the combined
cycles of the survey: a household file; and a person file.
- Cycle 1:
Cycle 1 of the CTUMS is conducted between February and June. Two files
are generated from the survey: a household file and a person file.
- Cycle 2: Cycle 2 of the CTUMS is conducted between July and December.
Again, two files are generated from the survey: a household file and a
person file.
