YOUTH SMOKING SURVEY [1994]

This special survey, sponsored by Health Canada, provides information of the smoking behaviour of young people in Canada. The main topics included:

(1) teenagers and cigarette smoking

(2) smoking habits of young Canadians (aged 10-19)

(3) Tobacco consumption by young Canadians.

Two data files were produced from the two groups sampled:

  • Data was collected from 10-14 year olds through the School Component; there are 9,491 cases in the School data file.

  • Data was collected from 15-19 year olds through the Labour Force Survey Supplement; there are 14,270 cases in the LFS data file.

Users are strongly urged to read the User Guide before proceeding with any analysis. The Guide can be downloaded (see below) or consulted in print in the Government Documents, Data and Maps Department on the 3rd floor of the Harriet Irving Library.

Note also that, since the original release of the file, a few minor errors in the file have been corrected by Statistics Canada and some variables which were suppressed have been released in the replacement file. The files linked to this page were updated as of 6 March 2001.
