Survey of Smoking in Canada, 2004

The following files are available for use within the constraints of the DLI license to UNB Libraries users.

The main objective of the YSS is to provide benchmark data on national prevalence rates for students in grades 5 through 9. In addition to prevalence rates, the YSS also offers a detailed snapshot of purchasing behaviour, and information about the effect of continued tobacco marketing.

The YSS is a Health Canada sponsored survey of students in grades 5 through 9 and their parents. The YSS was first administered in 1994 and was repeated in 2002 and 2004 in order to track changes in the attitudes and behaviour of Canadian children and adolescents with respect to tobacco. A new version has been conducted but the public use microdata file is not available through the DLI program.
